Actions Speak...

You’ve heard it said; actions speak louder than words; talk is cheap, put your money where your mouth is, etc. No matter how you say it, people will always measure what you say by what you do. These old proverbs remind us of the incredible responsibility we have with the actions of our lives.

More than 80 percent of children say parents are the leading influences in their decision to drink or not. 9 out of 10 people with substance problems started using by age 18. Parents, the role you play in the lives of your children can’t be understated. Sure, your kids are learning from friends, media, teachers, coaches, etc., but most youth admit that parents are the leading influence in their life.

Maybe you’ve asked yourself, “I hope what I’m saying is sinking in.” Instead, I challenge you to evaluate what you are doing over what you are saying. It’s hard to overcome the influence of our action with our words. Don’t tell them what road to follow, lead them. Don’t tell them how to choose friends, show them. Actions speak louder than words. Don’t just say it, show it.
